With the beginning of the new year there is some basic maintenance that I feel everyone should do on their website. High up on that list is updating your copyright. It is one of those forgotten parts of the site, that if left unattended could really make your site and your content appear outdated and irrelevant.
While most experts would agree that a copyright date has little to no impact on search engine rankings, it does have an impact on reader interest. Going to a site that has a copyright that is two or three years (or more) out of date, sends a messages to visitors that your site is not being cared for and is neglected.
How do you update it? That depends on your site and how it was built. Many times it is as easy as going to each page, finding the date and making the change. Better still, modern sites will have code built in that will update it automatically, so no need to worry.
Take a look at your site today and see if your copyright is up to date. If it is not, dig in and get it changed or contact us to get it taken care of ASAP. Better still, talk to us about adding code that will automatically update your copyright every year without you having to think twice about it.
